What Is A Breastfeeding Consultation?

A breastfeeding consultation at the Children’s Clinic of Nashville is a meeting between one or both parents, the baby, and our International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), Sally Rader. The doctors and Nurse Practitioners at TCCN support the American Academy of Pediatrics statement which recommends “exclusive breastfeeding for about 6 months, and then continuing breastfeeding while introducing complementary foods until your child is 12 months or older” to provide the best nutrition for a growing child. While breastfeeding may seem like a natural process, it can be much more challenging than women expect.

Sally has Experience Helping with Numerous Breastfeeding Issues:

  • Failure of milk to “come in”, low milk supply
  • Slow weight gain
  • Baby that is sleepy at the breast
  • Oversupply of milk
  • Pain with breastfeeding, nipple soreness, and nipple break-down
  • Tongue-tie
  • Weaning from supplementation
  • Using your pump, pumping
  • Planning for going back to work
